The 2010 Golden Woodys, Part 2

If you missed the first five awards, also known as Part 1 you can catch up here.
Category: Best Desk Segments

2009 Winner: The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien

2010 Nominees:

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
The Late Show with David Letterman
The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

And the award goes to… Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Reason: Late Night had some really great and some truly terrible desk segments in 2010. But no matter how a particular bit turned out, it’s hard to argue with the fact that Late Night tried harder than any other late-night show to entertain people with this segment.

Category: Best Couch Guest Interviews

2009 Winner: The Late Show with David Letterman

2010 Nominees:

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
The Late Show with David Letterman
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

And the award goes to… The Late Show with David Letterman

Reason: Letterman has many talents, but his strongest may be his ability to talk one-on-one with people. His sharp focus, dark humor and knack for leading or following but being in control either way make his guest interviews the best on late-night television.

Category: Best Musical Guests

2009 Winner: The Late Show with David Letterman

2010 Nominees:

Jimmy Kimmel Live
Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
The Late Show with David Letterman

And the award goes to… Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Reason: Late Night had a really good mix of old and new musical guests in 2010.

Category: Best Ending

2009 Winner: The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

2010 Nominees:

Jimmy Kimmel Live
The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

And the award goes to… The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

Reason: Late-night endings haven’t changed since last year. Every show says good-bye to their guests as quickly as possible while the credits roll. Every show, that is, except The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Craig’s “What Did We Learn on the Show Today Craig?” is still far and away the best way to end a late-night show.

Category: Best Host

2009 Winner: The Late Show with David Letterman

2010 Nominees:

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
The Late Show with David Letterman
The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien/Conan

And the award goes to… The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien/Conan

Reason: Conan lost his dream job hosting The Tonight Show after only six months on the air. He could have done virtually anything with the millions NBC paid him to leave. But he only ever really wanted to do one thing, and seven months later he was back as the host of Conan on TBS, with most of his crew in tow, entertaining us again.

Category: Best Overall Late-Night Talk Show

2009 Winner: The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien

2010 Nominees:

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
The Late Show with David Letterman
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

And the award goes to… The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

Reason: Ironically, the 2010 award for Best Overall Late-Night Talk Show goes to the show that prides itself on being as anti-late-night as possible. The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson was the most consistently entertaining late-night show in 2010.

Congratulations to the winners. Here’s to a great 2011!
