Tonight Show Highlights

Two things before we begin. First, the site was down between 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM due to a cut fiber line downtown. Second, my goal this weekend is to post a collection of clips from this week of all the late night hosts who joked about the NBC/Conan/Leno situation. It should be pretty funny, assuming I get it done.

On that note, since Conan might not be on much longer, I thought I’d check in on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien again. Here were my favorite monologue jokes from last night:

Ladies and gentlemen, hello there, I’m Conan O’Brien and I’ve been practicing the phrase ‘Who ordered the Mochachino Grande?’ Look for me. And please tip.

I’m trying very hard to stay positive here. And I want to tell you something. This is honest. Hosting the Tonight Show has been the fulfillment of a life-long dream for me. And I just want to say to the kids out there watching, you can do anything you want in life…unless Jay Leno wants to do it too.

And then there was this:

This is a crazy story in the news: natives on the Pacific island of Vonwatu recently apologized to the great-great-grandson of a missionary who their ancestors ate a hundred and seventy years ago. Witnesses describe the conversation as “awkward.”

And this:

The desk segment was Classic Tonight Show Moment, where Conan and Andy look back through all their time on the Tonight Show and relive great segments. They went all the way back to August of 2009 when they shot their wax Fonz and Tom Cruise out of circus canons. Ah, the good old days.

Ricky Gervais was the first couch guest. He’s hosting the Golden Globes this weekend.  I love Ricky’s British sense of humor. Not only is he hilarious, but he laughs when other people are being funny, which most comedians typically don’t do. Conan and Ricky had a really wonderful chemistry. The interview was great and it’s worth watching all the clips. Warning, the last clip may not entirely safe to watch if you’re at work. But if you can watch it at work, call everyone else to come join you at your computer.

Bryce Dallas Howard was the second couch guest. She is starring in the new film The Loss of the Teardrop Diamond. I really enjoyed Bryce in The Village, so it was nice to see her off-screen. Turns out she is pretty cool. Like Ricky, she and Conan had great a dialogue, which resulted in a good interview.

Whitney Cummings was the stand-up guest. I thought she was a lot funnier than the audience did. Watch her performance and let me know which side you agree with:

Another great show. I give it:

Tonight Show Highlights

Here were my favorite monologue jokes from last night’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno:

Everything in Chile is going well. The last miners are being brought up as we speak. Did you see them come out? In that tiny tube the trip took like 15 to 20 minutes to travel 2000 feet. Or as we call that in LA: rush hour.

It was pretty tiny. They’re jammed in there, little tiny cramped capsule. It was dark, it was scary. Fortunately a lot of these miners had flown Southwest, so they were used to it.

One of the miners had a wife and a mistress. He was the 21st miner out, and his wife didn’t come to meet him. However, all his clothes and his belongings, they were all there.

So once all 33 miners have been rescued that means the only one still stuck in a hole of his own making: President Obama.

In Southern China a three year-old boy who weighs 140 pounds has been banned from several nurseries as a danger to the youngsters. Give you an idea of how fat this kid is, his nickname: The American.

McDonalds in Hong Kong will start allowing couples to get married in the restaurants. Lemme tell you something, if your marriage starts off in a fast food place, that “till death do us part” thing is not far off.

The desk segment was Real Pet Products. This was the best desk segment I’ve seen on Leno in a long, long time:

Harrison Ford was the first couch guest. He’s in the upcoming film Morning Glory. Like all geeks, nerds and dorks I love Harrison. He has played terrific roles in a lot of fantastic films. So, it’ll probably come as no surprise that it was great to see him. The interview was a lot of fun to watch. Harrison is older, but I think he’s still got it. Here’s the 2nd half, which I found more entertaining than the first half:

Whitney Cummings was the second couch guest. She is a comedian who has made television appearances on a variety of shows. Here was her stand-up routine:

Gogol Bordello was the musical guest. This is the 2nd time I’ve seen them on a late-night show this year. They’re still pretty entertaining.

Great show, best one I’ve seen since Conan left. I give it:
