Late Show and Late Night Highlights

Happy Cinco de Mayo to all my fans in Mexico. I’m not if I have any, but I like to cover my bases just in case.

Anyone see Late Night with Jimmy Fallon?  The monologue had three jokes worth mentioning.

Did you guys see the Kentucky Derby this weekend? Fifty to one long shot. Mine That Bird won. That means if you put a thousand dollars on Mine That Bird to win, you have a serious gambling problem.

A Swiss pilot has designed a pair of jet propelled wings, and is planning to use them to fly across the Grand Canyon. Experts are saying that the wings will be a huge hit… with the bottom of that canyon.

A Radio Shack employee was arrested after he punched a customer who was trying to return an item. The employee is being charged with assault, but because it’s Radio Shack, battery is not included.

Here are the two desk segments. They were decently entertaining and have some funny moments:

Jennifer Aniston was Fallon’s first guest. How was it? Well, check out these clips:

Donald Faison was Jimmy’s second guest. I’m a big fan of Donald. I think he’s hilarious on Scrubs. I wish I had clips to share. The interview was totally geeky. Donald is a “gigantic” Empire Strikes Back fan. Jimmy asked him what kind of Star Wars movie he would pitch to George Lucas. Donald’s answer was: The Chronicles of Lando Calrissian, staring Donald Faison.

Adele was the musical guest. She was on Letterman back in March. She’s still good.

Also, I caught up on the Late Show with David Letterman episodes from last week. Man, that guy is a great entertainer. There are some good clips I recommend checking out:

Dolly Parton has a bad NY trip

Dave’s monologue with a bad case of laryngitis

Dave doctors a damaged Jennifer Garner

Regis Philbin rants about Dave

Top Ten Signs You’re at a Bad Zoo

Kiefer Sutherland admits to being tortured

And, with a thick German accent, for my buddy Roger:

Late Show Highlights

Anyone see the Late Show with David Letterman last night? There were a few good monologue jokes:

Yesterday they announced the Tony Awards. The Jets and the Sharks from West Side Story were nominated in the category Best Gay Street Gang.

We were nominated here. The Ed Sullivan Theater, The Late Show: Biggest Waste of a Broadway Theater.

Obama and Biden went there yesterday for lunch. This place outside of Washington called Ray’s Hell Burger. A kinda embarrassing moment. They go into the place and everyone goes, “Oh my God, it’s the President and the Vice President.” And they’re stunned. And then the guy behind the counter taking orders – it was Rob Blagojevich.

I finally enjoyed a visit from Andy Kindler. His interview with climate change experts was pretty decent.

Bruce Willis was Dave’s first guest. I’ve always been a big fan of Bruce because he’s willing to do physical comedy a laugh. He came out wearing a huge, seriously, huge, rubber band ball helmet, stating that it was to protect him from concussions while filming and being at home. He didn’t feel a thing when Dave hit him in the back of the head with an empty liquor bottle. He also brought a Do-It-Yourself Concussion-Buster Kit, a huge bag of rubber bands, which he’s selling on QVC for $49.95. Not too many other actors will do put themselves out there and do silly stuff like that.

Dave and Bruce have a great chemistry. The rest of the interview was really fun to watch. I wish there was a clip of the stripper Bruce got for Dave as a present for getting married. You’ll just have to watch the whole interview.

But if you don’t have time, at least watch Bruce in his unbilled cameo in the movie Obsessed.

Ben Harper and the Relentless 7 was the musical guest. I don’t know why, but I just like anyone named “Ben”.

And last, but not least, hearty congratulations to Jimmy Fallon for winning a Webby award.

And, since I screwed it up last time, let’s try this again, with a thick German accent:

Late Show Highlights

Anyone see the Late Show with David Letterman last night? There were a few good monologue jokes:

Price of a first-class stamp has gone up. Are you aware of this? What is it, forty-four cents or something to mail a letter? It’s crazy. But, on the other hand, I’m hoping this will cut down on my hate mail.

You know what’s a big show? That Celebrity Apprentice. Have you ever seen it? Last night they had the season finale. Three hours, and it was live, and the winner is Joan Rivers. It’s a big deal. The winner of the show wins $250,000 for their favorite charity. And in this case it’s Face Lifts on Wheels.

They’re only going to allow 250 people inside the Statue of Liberty a day. It’s the same rules with Madonna.

Letterman did something I’ve never seen him do before. He skipped the desk segments and went straight to his first guest, Tom Hanks. After watching the interview the change made sense. Hanks started with, I’m not kidding, a nine minute story on how his dogs got skunked a few weeks ago. He followed it up with, no joke, another nine minute story about attending the Obama inauguration. He ended with, for reals, a nine minute story on his new movie.

I’m an old-school fan of Hanks. That means I enjoyed his movies in the 80s and 90s, but haven’t seen him in anything in probably 10 years. I thought the interview was good, as Hanks was full of energy and good humor. My favorite bit was his explanation that firemen in Italy are called “vigilantes of fire”. “How cool is that,” he asked Dave as the crowd laughed and clapped.

The Killers were the musical guest. I like The Killers. I think Brandon Flowers has a great voice.

Overall I give the show a B.
