Tonight Show Highlights

The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien was pretty good last night. Here were my favorite monologue jokes and bits:

Yesterday, of course on Fox News, commentator Glenn Beck said that he believes President Obama is a racist. That’s what he said. Well to be fair, every time you watch Glenn Beck it does get a little easier to hate white people.

This fall a team of scientists is going to shoot lasers at Mount Rushmore to create a three-dimensional model. Yeah, if the lasers are effective Teddy Roosevelt will no longer need glasses.

And then there was this:

And this:

The desk segment was a video of Conan helping his Associate Producer Jordan Schlansky look at houses in LA. Basically, it’s seven minutes of Conan mocking Jordan’s view of the world. It had some funny moments, but previous videos of the two of them doing the same routine in similar situations have been better.

Emmy-nominated Rainn Wilson was the first couch guest. He spent the first half of the interview explaining the “hierarchy of dorks and geeks”. I was able to relate to some of what he was saying:

He spent the second half of the interview telling stories of his brush with feminism and his musical-loving son:

Overall I enjoyed the interview. It was cool to listen to funny stories about Rainn instead of promotions for The Office or a new movie.

Rachel Maddow was the second couch guest. She has her own news show on MSNBC and is a non-stop force of energy, information and options. The interview was good.

Chicago was the musical guest. I loved listening to Chicago while growing up. They’re older, but still rocking.

Overall I give the show a B+.

Extra Highlights

I had the opportunity to watch a few episodes of the Tonight Show, Late Night and the Late Show from this past week that I didn’t review. There are some really funny clips that I think you’ll enjoy.

We’ll start with world champion knife-thrower Jack Dagger (that really is his name) teaching Conan how to throw knifes. See, you’re smiling already and you haven’t even watched the clip:

Over at the Late Show we’ve got the Top Ten Signs You’re Staying at a Bad Resort. Number 2 is the best. This debate between Dave and Katie Couric is fun to watch. Last but not least: Top Ten Things That Went Through Mark Buehrle’s Mind During His Perfect Game.

Finally, Sean “Diddy” Combs was a guest on Late Night. The entrance was really well done and Diddy was hysterical:

See you next week.

Tonight Show Highlights

I had planned to review last night’s Late Night with David Letterman, but he appears to be off this week. So it’s back to The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. Here were my favorite monologue jokes:

The man who wrote many of the speeches for President George W. Bush is now working on his memoirs. True story, yup. The book will be called Me Do Bad Job.

A census of video game characters has found that the elderly are underrepresented in video games. In response, they’re coming out with a Grand Theft Auto where the main character spends the whole game trying to remember where he parked.

A group of women found out that the same guy was secretly dating all four of them, so to get back at him they put crazy glue on his penis. Unfortunately, they forgot to tell woman number five.

Feeling that the government’s Cash for Clunkers offer is boring, Conan used the desk segment to announce a new contest called Conan, Please Blow Up My Car. Submit a video detailing why your old clunker should be packed full of explosives and obliterated, and you might get your wish. The winner will have his or her car destroyed during the show and then drive away in a new Lexus. It wasn’t a very funny segment, but I’m sure blowing up a car will be pretty cool.

Ashton Kutcher was Conan’s first couch guest. I’ve always been jealous of Ashton for being married to Demi Moore. I really felt she should have chosen me, but oh well. His new movie Spread comes out next week. The interview was pretty casual. You can tell by the way Ashton acts that he is happily on top of the world. Good for him, the jerk.

Charlyne Yi was the second couch guest. She’s a comedian and actress and has a new film coming out this week called Paper Heart. She was interesting.

Gomez was the musical guest. They played a song off their new album A New Tide. They were good.

Overall I give the show a B.
