We have arrived at the final installment of my interview with Dan Long, the artist behind Edmund Finney’s Quest to find the Meaning of Life. If you missed the previous installments you’ll be happy to know that the audio version of the interview will soon be available on iTunes. We were able to get famous actors to play our parts. I will be voiced by Gary Busey. Dan will be voiced by The Situation.

WAH: What area of your webcomic do you think needs to be improved upon?

DL: My coloring, definitely.  Though I have an extensive background in art, I’ve never totally grasped color theory, and I always admire cartoonists and other artists who have a great handle on color schemes.  I have no idea where to begin creating a palette that is pleasing to the eye.  I love the color palettes, for example, of Muddle Creek (muddlecreek.com) by Jerome Benedict.  I’d envision my color style being similar to that, if I could magically force my brain to create it.  Maybe someday…

WAH: What are you doing when you’re not working on your webcomic?

DL: I do a lot of artwork on the side, for no reason, which I suppose may be an invalid answer since it’s usually related to cartoons and comics.  I have a normal 9-to-5 job, and in the off time draw and hang out with my dog, Mesha, a boxer mix who needs lots of playing and walking time in order to keep sane.  I’m a big fan of movies, too, so I usually re-watch them (I like my classic comforts) whenever I can find free time.  Some of my favorites include Schindler’s List, House of 1,000 Corpses, and The Muppet Christmas Carol.

  1. If Dan likes Rob Zombie and the Muppets, then Dan is my new bestest friend.

…and at least the Invisible Man wasn’t saving his boogers.

This strip poses an important epistemological dilemma. If the sound of tree falling is heard in a forest, but no tree falls, has a tree fallen?

Good comic. Good interview. There are some good color resources for creating palettes on the web. Here are a few

I’ve read every “Quest to find the meaning of life” comic and he never met the invisible man!

  5. Well, Edmund, you’d better make Woody find every single one of them. :D

@JackXD it’s not explicit, but it could be implied that Edmund meets the invisible man at the party in http://eqcomics.com/comics/a-late-arriva/
    Great stuff
